Mercury Retrograde Mexican Style Slow Bath/Shower

This slow bath/shower, as the name implies, takes time to prepare and experience. Plan to set aside an hour or two to fully indulge in this nervous system soothing bathing ritual. This bath This ritual bathing experience was inspired by Jen Brederson’s Herbal Lymphatics course from the California School of Herbal Studies in collaboration with the lack of a steady supply of hot water available when I was living on the Oaxacan Coast.

 Time:

This slow shower/bath, as the name implies, will take an hour or two to prepare and enjoy. Use the Mercury Retrograde to take some time away from your devices, your children/family and the hustle and bustle of your daily life to restore, replenish and soothe frazzled nerves.

To prepare:

Supplies needed:

2 large pots

3 or more washcloths

Calming essential oils like Lavender, Rose Geranium, Chamomile or your choice

Fresh or Dry herbs like: Red Clover, Lavender, Rose Petals, Rosemary or whatever you have on hand (Turmeric, Basil, Cinnamon)

Crystals or stones

Flower essences like Pink Yarrow, Red Clover, Lavender, Corn, Mountain Pennyroyal

Herb or essential oil infused (or plain) sesame, olive, coconut oil

A large bowl or cup

 How to:

1.     Boil water in a large pot.

2.     Bring another large pot or bucket and a small stool or water safe chair into your shower.

3.     Bring boiling water in pot #1 into shower.

4.     Fill bucket/pot # 2 with cold water and add enough hot water to make it a good temperature to apply to your body.

5.     Put herbs, essential oils, crystals and flower essences into bucket/pot #2. This is your magical cauldron, get creative.

6.     Put washcloths into bucket/pot #2 aka your magical cauldron.

7.     Put one steaming hot washcloth on your chair/stool and sit on that. Take another washcloth and apply to lymph areas around neck and rest of body. Use large bowl or cup to wash hair/body as desired or just pour hot/warm water over your head until you feel calm and good. Continue to add hot water from pot #1 to bucket/pot #2 as needed to keep the temperature right. Dip and apply washcloths until your ritual slow shower/bath feels complete. Add more herbs/flower essences/EO’s as needed.

For extra nervous system support:

Make yourself an herbal mocktail to enjoy while bathing.

My signature “Slow Bath” mocktail:

2 tbl of Tulsi Oxymel (Infuse dried or fresh Tulsi in Apple Cider vinegar for 3 weeks, add equal amounts of local honey)

5 ml of Milky Oats Tincture

3 ml of Rose Glyerite or Rose water

8 oz of sparkling water

Garnish with purple basil, fresh Tulsi or Mint

Ice to taste

Add Tulsi, Milky Oats and Rose to sparkling water, pour over ice, add garnish.
